AURAL LESIONS

Posted by Monica Friday, June 3, 2011

Aural lesions of many kinds including otitis media and meniere syndrome cause vertigo. The labyrinth may be damaged in a head injury and the vertigo may then be most severe when the head is in a certain position usually backwards and one side. A similar type of positional vertigo may occur in brief paroxysms. It is benign condition which may disappear after a few months, the labyrinth maybe damaged by mumps and by various toxic s\drugs such as streptomycin. Quince and salicylates are also believed to cause vertigo by an action on the middle or inner ear. Hearing is almost invariably affected when the lesion is labyrinthine than in ht nerve or central connections.
