DYSARTHRIA

Posted by Monica Sunday, May 15, 2011

Dysarthria should be distinguished from dysphasia for in this condition is no defect in the comprehension of words not their use to express ideas, but rather a failure of the articulator mechanism. That is, the idea is given its correct symbol but the pattern of muscle contraction is distorted in the vocal apparatus; the words are correct but they are mispronounced, quieting is not affected n contract to the condition in expressive aphasia where is usually also impairment of ability to express oneself by means of written symbols.
